Republic Of Ireland deposit return scheme has been implemented
In Republic of Ireland, the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) comes into effect February 1st, 2024. This scheme is designed to promote recycling and reduce litter by incentivising the return of empty plastic drinks bottles and aluminium cans.
Under the DRS, consumers pay a small refundable deposit when purchasing a drink in a container with the Re-Turn logo. They can then claim back the deposit by returning the empty container to designated collection points. The aim is to encourage individuals to actively participate in recycling and increase the recycling rates.
The Deposit Return Scheme, aims to protect the environment, reduce waste, and foster a circular economy where materials are recycled and reused. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to address environmental sustainability and waste management.
